The Ultimate Fall Golf Cart Maintenance Guide Protecting Your Cart’s 12V Accessories for the Off-Season

As mid-to-late fall settles in, golf course superintendents, fleet operators, and individual cart owners are wrapping up their final rounds of the season. Before park or garage doors close for the winter, spending a few extra minutes on end-ofseason equipment checks is essential to protect your investments.

If your cart is equipped with aftermarket 12V accessories like the Fairway Fogger, proper winterization prevents costly freeze damage, mineral buildup, and electrical drain during extended cold-weather downtime.

Flush & Purging the Fogger System

Standing water inside pumps, lines, or fittings is the leading cause of winter freeze damage. Before temperatures drop below freezing, thoroughly clear the system:

  • Drain the Fairway Fogger’s main water reservoir completely, washing away any residual sediment.
  • Run the 3-speed pump dry for 10–15 seconds to purge remaining water from the internal housing.
  • Disconnect the quick-connect lines so trapped moisture can evaporate naturally over the off-season.

Protecting Your Battery Bank & 12V Electricals

Golf cart batteries, whether lead-acid deep-cycle or modern lithium setups, require special attention during freezing weather:

  • Fully charge your battery bank before putting the cart into storage, as fully charged batteries are far less likely to freeze.
  • Safely disconnect the 12V power leads feeding your accessories to prevent any subtle, slow electrical draw over the winter.
  • Clean all terminal connections with a wire brush and apply terminal protector spray to inhibit rust and oxidation.

Cleaning & Storing Precision Misting Nozzles

Hard-water deposits and mineral scale can harden over the winter months, leading to clogged misting heads when spring arrives:

  • Unscrew the rotating misting nozzles and soak them in a mild white vinegar bath for 20 to 30 minutes to dissolve mineral buildup.
  • Blow dry the heads and store them in a small sealed bag or compartment inside the cart’s glove box.

Pre-Spring Quick Checklist

Keep this 5-point checklist handy when bringing your cart out of storage next spring:

  • Re-attach & Secure Tubing: Reconnect all quick-connect water lines and ensure they are properly routed without kinks.
  • Inspect Mounts & Hardware: Check that all brackets and mounting hardware remain tight and rustfree.
  • Inspect Mounts & Hardware: Check that all brackets and mounting hardware remain tight and rustfree.
  • Reconnect 12V Power: Secure the accessory power leads back to your 12V supply or step-down converter.
  • Prime & Test Run: Fill the reservoir with clean water, turn on the pump, and run a 30-second cycle to verify leak-free, full-mist operation.
